Considerations

Consider the light,

Royal through the ash,

Consider the passing days,

Consider the tenderness

Of evening and nightsong,

Molecrickets ruling the field,

Consider the snake

Crawled out of its skin,

Caught by the tail on the door,

Consider the flight

Of consciousness raised,

That visceral, libertine plane,

Consider the rush

When you think of the past,

Consider the tingle of living.

Marketing in the Dark

More sunlight in the woods

as the crowns thin,

future lying at our feet,

vivid and brief.

Drunk with ego,

the self-important

lie down in the litter

of their petty concerns.

The owl calls near the house

and sets the dogs to barking;

something ancient and fearful,

something unspoiled and true.

Travelers

On the morning 7 line, Paris

Time, momentum relentless,

Stilled by the shutter, power

Of the photograph, and us,

Late to the scene, time travelers,

Everything the camera sees,

Strange and beautiful as it ever was.

Tangle

In the light, and the night,

And the half-light,

We are lost in the field

And its death rattle,

We are mad, we are sane,

We are half-mad,

Gathering what we can save,

Desperate for  empathy.

Indigo

Bullet hole of genius in this valley if

I can reach it through thickening sighs.

From the Station House

The arc of things,

The endings,

Empty boats tied

To a broken dock;

How long I can float

Is impossible to say,

Yearning for those

Who have died in my arms

And for those I have driven away.

The Epicureans

We are silk

We are blade

We are light,

We are the corn

Teeming in the field,

We are the field

And the field is us,

Clinging to desire,

Time left to thrill,

Promising ourselves

To make the most of it

Before our atoms recombine.

Just Another

double-click to enlarge

Just another butterfly

Sipping the blackberry wine

Just another sunny afternoon

Another summer winding down

Just another life approaching

Conclusion in the dew.
