We met once again

Embraced and gashed the sky

Meteors at last

She had a request

To be buried with her horse

One less thing, she said

Fish

I've seen your tattoo

Fish hook set deep in your flesh

A love that won't heal

A World with Poppies

Orange flares in the rain

Loss is our lesson of course

But there are poppies

In the north of our desires

How few live such lives

The Sea as We Left It

Duck, NC

Maybe the beach again the sand and the sea

others will be there waiting for us

maybe November is far enough away

to make it seem possible to think it will be as it was

unchanged as it was and constantly changing

the cries of gulls in the wind and the smell

the fecund smell of salt and decay

others will be there where we left them

awaiting our return as it once was

the wind and the sky and the absences

the collapsing surf the cry of the gulls

the rhythmic collapse and the sighs

of the sea receding and the relentless wind

 everything changing and unchanged

in the great absences

in the cry and collapse

of the off-season

others will be waiting

as they once were.
